Urban Fresh: Photographic Impressions of the Steel City’s Natural Environment
Since returning to my hometown of Hamilton in 2008 after 35 years in Toronto, I have been documenting the city’s unique natural, cultural and industrial heritage in my photographs.
In this series, I have re-interpreted commonplace parks and natural areas including Confederation Park, Cootes Paradise, Van Wagner’s Beach, the Escarpment and Gage Park to give them a new visual sensibility.
I want viewers to slow down, stop, and really look at the wonderful natural environment of the steel city – to see the commonplace as if for the first time.
This series of photographs was exhibited at the Hamilton Public Library Gallery 4 throughout November 2013. It was supported by a grant from the Ontario Arts Council.
