My Kind of Blue – oil 30×30″
A celebration of life and the cathartic and healing property of art-making, my “Optimism of Color” series forms part of my personal creative response to a seemingly mundane accident in January 2011 that led to my near death.
Working on the pieces has taken me far from the trauma of my accident and the depression that followed me through recovery. Through vibrant colors and bold visceral forms, the works shout out my joy at being alive and my good fortune at being able to continue to make art.
And indeed, the paintings bring a smile to my face every time I see them. I hope they bring viewers similar joy and perhaps laughter when they encounter them.
Check out my Optimism of Color blog where since January 6, 2012, I’ve been posting a photo or piece of art that celebrates life.
